Bristol City signing Australia international midfielder

Skysports.com understands that Bristol City have won the race to sign Leeds United midfielder Neil Kilkenny. The Australia international was out of contract at Elland Road and will move to Ashton Gate on a free transfer on July 1. The former Oldham loanee enjoyed three-and-a-half years with Leeds, but was unable to agree terms to extend his West Yorkshire stay. Kilkenny is now joining rivals Bristol City on a three-year deal after being impressed with manager Keith Millen's vision for the future. The club are also set to move to a new ground in the near future and Kilkenny believes the Robins are heading in the right direction.

Decision

"I did have offers from others clubs but once I spoke to the gaffer my mind was made up to come to Bristol City," he told skysports.com. "They have a lot of exciting plans for the future including moving to a new stadium and it will be good to be part of that. "I was impressed by what the manager had to say and he worked hard to get me to sign. "I believe we can challenge for promotion as it was only two years ago the team was in the play-off final and I will do my best to help the team be successful." On leaving Leeds: "I was sad to leave Leeds as they have great people around the club and the fans have been brilliant to me. These things happen in football and you have to move on."
