Bristol City defender Lewin Nyatanga will postpone ankle surgery until the end of the season in order to help his club try to sidestep relegation from the Championship.
Nyatanga, 23, has been struggling with the injury for several weeks, but had been playing through the pain barrier as the Robins look to steer themselves to safety.
The Welsh centre-back has not featured for City since February 11th, however, and looks set to miss this weekend's trip to Ipswich, but manager Derek McInnes hopes he will be back in action sooner rather than later with the aid of pain-killing injections.
"Lewin has an underlying problem with his ankle which is causing us some concern," McInnes told the
Bristol Evening Post.
"We've known all along that it is an injury that will require surgery at the end of the season.
"But we are hoping we can keep the problem at bay until then and the latest news is a wee bit more positive.
"We've spoken to the specialist and we feel that, with careful management of his workload, he will be back in training this week and available for selection quite soon."
