Colusso looking for step up

EXCLUSIVE
CRISTIAN COLUSSO believes he can set The Premiership alight after impressing at Oldham Athletic since his move to England in January.

The Argentine Under-20 international impressed on trial in January and Mick Wadsworth (pictured) snapped him up and, although The Latics want to keep Colusso, it would appear he is destined for greater things.

Colusso has slotted into the English lifestyle with ease and, as he holds a European Union passport, would certainly appear to be worth the risk for a club in the summer, having earned rave reviews during his time at Boundary Park.

Wadsworth is a keen admirer of South American talent, having taken the likes of Diego Gavilan, Daniel Cordone and Cristian Bassedas to St James' Park in his time as assistant to Bobby Robson at Newcastle.

Speaking exclusively to Planetfootball.com, Colusso revealed: "I'd love to play on the continent.  Italy is my dream."

Colusso has an Italian passport and would like to shine in the country of his ancestors, but despite just three months at Oldham, he has already developed a taste for Engish football.

"Although I'd never heard of Oldham or any Second Division football before I came here, English football is interesting, fast and intelligent and I like it," he added.

"I feel I am a qualified footballer.  I could play in The Premiership, any big club would do."

Having played for Argentina at both Under-20 and Under-23 levels, Colusso is well qualified to give his opinion on the World Cup and he stated: "Argentina is definitely a favourite for the World Cup, even though I don't like the style the national team plays.

"I like England, France and Spain and think they all have a good chance of winning."

Despite interest from European sides, Wadsworth admitted: "Cristian is a hell of a talent and that's something we want to embrace and encourage.

"I like him very much and would certainly enjoy having him here again next season."

Colusso has appeared in 12 games for Oldham, netting twice in spectacular style, and his vision and distribution have been a massive bonus for Wadsworth.
