Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov singled out on-loan midfielder Jason Lowe for special praise after beating Notts County on Saturday.
The Blackburn Rovers youngster kept his cool to convert a late penalty in The Latics' 2-0 win at Meadow Lane, which ended their 12-game winless run.
However, with the play-off dreams shattered, the Scotsman told
skysports.com that he wants to finish the season in style.
"I don't want to say I told you so, but I really did think that this kind of result was coming," he commented.
"It was pleasing to keep a clean sheet too and all credit to the keeper and back four, but to get that little bit of luck with the penalty was what we needed.
Responsibility
"It took a lot of guts from a young kid like Jason to step up for the penalty, especially in only his second game for the club, and not many others wanted that responsibility, but he kept his cool.
"I'm delighted, not for myself, but the lads because they work their socks off for me every day.
"I'm not going to tell you who was supposed to be on penalties because he absolutely bottled it, but when I saw the penalty given nine of our players turned round and didn't look interested.
"Only Ritchie Jones and Jason wanted it, but I've taken penalties myself over the years and it takes a lot of guts to do it, never mind when it's so late in a game and you've not scored or won in a long time.
"The fans that were at Notts County were fantastic and the fans at home have been great too, but we've got six games left and we really want to end the season on a high.
"That's two games unbeaten now and let's keep that run going for another six, which will be hard, but we've got the confidence and belief back to do it.
"I'm not taking my foot off the pedal and both myself and the coaching staff will be making sure that the players don't either."
