Swansea have announced that former Chelsea midfielder Gabriele Ambrosetti has joined their coaching staff.

The 42-year-old was in the stands for Monday's 1-0 win over Watford alongside new head coach Francesco Guidolin.

And Ambrosetti is to join the staff and work under Guidolin and Alan Curtis as the Swans look to steer clear of the relegation zone.

Ambrosetti knows Guidolin well, having played under the experienced coach when Vicenza won the Italian Cup in 1997.

"Francesco was my coach so I know how he works and his style, and he also knows how I work.

"We kept in touch all the time, and as soon as he asked me about going to Swansea with him I quickly said yes!

Ambrosetti played for Varese and Brescia in Italy before joining and was dubbed the 'Italian Ryan Giggs' by Chelsea boss Gianluca Vialli when he moved to west London in 1999.

However, he only made 16 appearances for the Blues and, after spending time at Piacenza on loan, he returned to Italy on a permanent basis in 2003.

He joins Swansea with the club just one point clear of the drop zone after Monday's welcome victory.
