Rhian Brewster is set to make his Swansea debut in Sunday's south Wales derby - a match you can see live on Sky Sports Football - so what can Swans fans expect from the exciting Liverpool striker?

Brewster, 19, moved to the Liberty Stadium on a six-month loan on Tuesday, with Steve Cooper's side reportedly beating off competition from a number of other Championship clubs for the youngster's signature.

So ahead of Brewster's possible Swansea bow this weekend, we take a look at why the England U21 international has opted to move to the Principality and what he may offer the Swans in attack as they look to seal a play-off place come the end of the season.

We make these decisions person by person, player by player. For Rhian we all agreed it was the right thing to do. The boys need to find a manager who knows them already. That's the case with Steve [Cooper] and Rhian. That helps a lot.

What is Brewster's back story then?

The 19-year-old suffered serious ankle and knee damage in January 2018, a few months after winning the Golden Boot during England U17s' victorious World Cup campaign. However, the player fought back to full fitness, signing a five-year deal later that year, before then earning a spot on the bench in Liverpool's Champions League final win over Tottenham last June.

Brewster went on to feature seven times in preseason, scoring four goals, with Klopp purring about his teenage frontman and promising him an important role this campaign.

"Brewster is a top striker, he is a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year, but how important depends on him," said the Reds boss last summer.

"He has to play different positions as well - the centre, wing is possible I think, we will see how we line up, but there will be opportunities for him. I am sure."

Why were Liverpool prepared to let him go out on loan?

According to Sky Sports News' Liverpool reporter Vinny O'Connor, with the Premier League leaders currently well-stocked in attack, the thinking was Brewster's development would be better served by him going out on loan and getting miles in his legs rather than remaining at Anfield.

"It's not a case of [Klopp] not trusting Brewster - if there had been an injury crisis within the front three, then Klopp would have had no problem using Brewster," says O'Connor.

"The fact is though that on top of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi is still ahead of Brewster. They have got Xherdan Shaqiri coming back to fitness and Takumi Minamino has been brought in as another option.

Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster insists his manager Jurgen Klopp has plans to integrate him into the first team, but admits it is difficult to displace the front three

"So a loan move makes sense for Brewster at this time.

"Obviously, the hope from Liverpool's perspective is that by Brewster getting regular first-team football this will enhance his development on the way to becoming an important part of Liverpool's first-team squad in the future."

So why Swansea then?

Seems like it was a case of right club calling at the right time, as Klopp explained last week.

"Swansea asked in the summer but it was not the right moment, he came back from a long-term injury so I thought he needed rhythm and to get used to his body again, the intensity. But now it is a good move for Rhian.

"Now he has trained for a long time. Now it was a good moment to help Swansea and help Rhian and us. But at the moment I don't see anybody else who would benefit more from a loan spell than from staying with us."

Not only that, but Brewster also thrived under Cooper's guidance as the England U17s won the World Cup in 2017, scoring eight times to win the Golden Boot.

And the Swans' hope will be that Brewster can now replicate those eye-catching displays at the Liberty between now and the end of the season.

"We make these decisions person by person, player by player," explained Klopp. "For Rhian we all agreed it was the right thing to do. The boys need to find a manager who knows them already. That's the case with Steve [Cooper] and Rhian. That helps a lot."

Jason McAteer has compared Liverpool's young striker Rhian Brewster to club legends Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush

Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham believes Brewster will make a big impact at Swansea.

"I think he will be a great signing and the advantage that Steve Cooper has got us that he was the manager of the England U17s team when Brewster played and scored in the World Cup final when they had that great comeback," said the former Manchester United defender.

"So he has that ability and the younger players will know what he is all about, while he could have been a big pull to get him into the club."
