Skysports.com understands that Swansea are poised to win the race for Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge.
The former Crystal Palace winger spent half of last season with QPR, where he played a key role in helping the club secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Routledge appears to have no future with the Magpies, with Leicester and Nottingham Forest also reportedly monitoring the player's situation.
But the Swans look to have stolen a march on their rivals with the offer of top flight football on the table and are hopeful a deal can be reached.
Journeyman
The 26-year-old has been something of a journeyman over his career, starting out at Crystal Palace before sealing a move to Tottenham.
He failed to win a regular place, however, and was loaned out to Portsmouth and Fulham before joining Aston Villa.
The player then moved on loan to Cardiff before switches to QPR and Newcastle, respectively, but despite a regular place at St James' Park initially, he fell out of favour under current boss Alan Pardew.
Should Routledge complete his move to Swansea, he will move into direct competition with the club's current wide men Nathan Dyer and Scott Sinclair.
