Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis says hard work over the summer has helped him start strongly in the new Premier League season.

Gomis has scored in both of Swansea's opening games and is focused on improving on the 10 goals he scored last year in his first season with the club.

"Scoring goals is great for my confidence," he told the club's website. "I worked hard in the summer to come back fit and raring to go.

"My aim is to score more goals than last year and show a different side to myself at Swansea. I'm happy with my start to the season but it's more important that the team has started well with good results."

Fellow-striker Andre Ayew has also scored in Swansea's opening-day draw at Chelsea and their victory over Newcastle and Gomis, who played against the Ghanaian during his time in France, is not surprised by his form.

Gomis said: "I know what a good player he is, particularly in front of goal. He showed what a quality player he was in France and he's showing that quality here in Swansea.

"It's important for us to have good goal scorers like Andre. With him, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jonjo Shelvey and others who can score there are lots of goals in the side."

Swansea manager Garry Monk agrees the club have players across the pitch capable of scoring goals.

"That is something we have got - players apart from the strikers who can score. Andre has shown he can finish, we know Gylfi can finish - he nearly scored a great goal against Newcastle.

"Jeff Montero will score goals and so will Ki Sung-yueng and Jonjo because of the type of players they are. We also look dangerous from set-pieces with our defenders in the box, so hopefully everyone will contribute."
