Jamie Devitt will sit out Carlisle's Sky Bet EFL Cup first-round tie against Port Vale through suspension.

The midfielder was dismissed on his debut at Portsmouth on Saturday after collecting two yellow cards inside half an hour.

Luke Joyce, Russell Penn and Patrick Brough, who were named on the bench against Pompey, will be pushing to replace Devitt.

Veteran forward Jabo Ibehre missed the long trip south with a knee problem and is unlikely to be risked against Vale.

Port Vale boss Bruno Ribeiro could hand a full debut to summer signing Anton Forrester.

Former Blackburn striker Forrester, who signed a two-year deal in July, came off the bench in the 70th minute during Vale's goalless draw at Bradford on Saturday.

Chris Mbamba and Quentin Pereira also entered proceedings after the interval at Valley Parade and could be be promoted to the starting line-up.
