The Polish Ekstraklasa league is currently on a winter break so Hateley will now join Slask at a training camp before putting pen-to-paper.
Hateley's contract with League One side Tranmere had come to an end and Slask manager Stanislav Levy confirmed that they were closing in on signing the 24 year-old.
"We are discussing a contract with him and I believe the process will be finished in a few days," Levy is quoted in the Daily Record.
"We want to have Tom with us for the next training camp when we leave on Friday"
Hateley can play at right-back, in defensive midfield or on the right of midfield and it is his versatility which seems to have attracted Slask.
"He is versatile and can play as full-back or defensive midfielder. It is critical we have someone to fill those positions," added Levy.
The son of former England international Mark Hateley, Tom will join former SPL player Barry Douglas, who plays for Lech Poznan, in Poland.
