Doncaster interim boss Rob Jones suffers another injury blow

Doncaster caretaker-boss Rob Jones was disappointed his return to the Rovers starting XI ended prematurely due to injury in their 2-2 draw with Swindon on Tuesday night.

Jones, who replaced the suspended Gary MacKenzie for his first start for over a month, lasted just 35 minutes before tweaking a hamstring and was replaced by Aaron Taylor-Sinclair.

"I have trained sporadically over the last few weeks, but when the chance comes calling I don't go and hide, I put myself to the front," said Jones. "But I made a run after around 20-25 minutes and I felt the hamstring tighten up, so I was no good to them out there after that.

"I am vastly disappointed as it has been a while since I last played.

"It is always a gamble when you go across the other side and come back into the squad. It has been a hectic three weeks and it was a gamble that didn't pay off."

On being back playing rather than watching on from the dugout, Jones added: "I have done it before, but it is a bit different now the reins are all yours.

"I'm not as sharp as I want to be, not match fit as I haven't played games, but it was good to be back out there again and I enjoyed it until my hamstring went."

Jones was denied a first win in the hotseat as Jonathan Obika's injury- time goal salvaged a draw for Swindon after Keshi Anderson and Andy Williams (penalty) had given Rovers the lead after they had fallen behind to Nicky Ajose's 47th-minute opener, but the 35-year-old was not too dispirited.

He said: "My brief was to move this club forward on the pitch and I think I doing that. I am not getting results just now, but we will get there.

"The lads are buying into what I want and how I do things. Training has changed dramatically. All those little things take time, but I think we have progressed.

"The only thing we are missing is a win."

Jones reiterated his desire again to be given the nod as Rovers' full- time boss.

He said: "I want to be the manager, I have never shied away from the fact. I have a passion for this football club and hopefully I can marry the two together."
