Frenchman joins, Saunders keen to tie down Diouf

Doncaster Rovers have signed Fabien Robert while manager Dean Saunders is attempting to resolve El-Hadji Diouf's future. France Under-20 international Robert has agreed to join the club on loan until the end of the season after impressing on a three-day trial. The deal is subject to registration and international clearance, although they hope he can make his debut against Hull City on Tuesday. Robert, who is the younger brother of ex-Newcastle winger Laurent, is relishing the prospect of playing Championship football.

Exciting

"I want to help the club stay in the Championship and this is an exciting challenge for me," Robert told the club's official website. "I'm a technical player and like to score and make goals for my team-mates. "When I came to train for a few days I was surprised that the club was in the bottom three because there are a lot of good players here. "I'm looking forward to getting started. I'm fit and ready as soon as the manager wants me to play."
Commit
Meanwhile, Saunders is keen to ensure Diouf commits his future to the Keepmoat Stadium club. Diouf agreed an 18-month extension in December and Saunders does not want to lose him when his short-term deal expires on transfer deadline day. "We are trying to sort out a deal with Diouf," Saunders told the Yorkshire Post. "It's been on hold because of Billy's situation. "He's got other offers, He's in demand. He is only 30 and he has won the African Player of the Year twice. "Getting players to come to the club is a lot easier with him being here."
