Doncaster offer rebuffed by Stevenage

Sky Sports understands Doncaster have failed with a bid for Stevenage defensive duo Jon Ashton and Mark Roberts. Rovers boss Dean Saunders is looking to bolster his squad as he looks to guide the Keepmoat Stadium club back into the Championship at the first time of asking. Donny had identified Ashton and Roberts as two targets, but their offer to Stevenage has been rejected by their League One rivals. The central defensive duo both featured in more than 50 matches for Boro as they finished sixth in League One last season before being beaten by Sheffield United in the play-off semi-final. Stevenage are clearly determined to retain two key members of their backline and it remains to be seen if Rovers will return with an improved offer.
