The Spireites started brightly and might have taken a fifth minute lead had Ian Evatt not headed straight at Jordan Archer from Gboly Ariyibi's delivery.

The visitors went in front on 17 minutes when O'Shea struck a volley from the edge of the area which went in off the post, before Archer again came to the home side's rescue, denying Chesterfield skipper Sam Morsy in a one-on-one.

Mark Beevers made a vital challenge 10 minutes into the second half to prevent Sylvan Ebanks-Blake converting from Ariyibi's cross.

A stunning one-handed save by Tommy Lee somehow kept out Jimmy Abdou's deflected shot before Millwall substitute Paris Cowan-Hall went to ground in the box, only to see his penalty claim turned down by referee Darren Deadman.
