Walsall 1-0 Crewe
Friday 26 December 2025 18:13, UK
Jamille Matt's strike in first-half stoppage time saw Walsall nudge a point ahead at the League Two summit with a 1-0 win over Crewe.
Goalmouth action was at a premium but the stingy Saddlers dug deep for a fourth clean sheet in six unbeaten league matches.
The Boxing Day rivals cancelled out one another in a first half of few openings, Crewe's Calum Agius seeing his far-post header loop over home goalkeeper Myles Roberts only for Aden Flint to calmly nod off the line.

The Saddlers enjoyed more possession and territory without creating much but broke the deadlock two minutes into first-half stoppage time, Evan Weir swinging a free-kick to the back post where Flint's downward header was shovelled out to Matt to slam in the rebound.
Walsall had an extra edge in the second half, Courtney Clarke having a shot charged down while Flint's triple swipe during a far-post scramble from a corner eventually cleared the bar.
Connor Barrett's square ball to the back post was scuffed into the side-netting by Aaron Pressley 14 minutes from time and although Crewe had a late flurry, Roberts repelled Omar Bogle's close-range hit two minutes past the 90.
