Andy Woodman's side found themselves 3-0 up before the half-hour mark, with Thompson netting twice and before Corey Whitely beating Glenn Morris with a powerful effort.

Bradley Dack pulled one back prior to the interval, but Thompson completed his treble early in the second half with an excellent half-volley.

The Ravens took the lead after 10 minutes when Whitely's low pass into the box was fired into the top corner by Thompson.

The midfielder added a second in 20th minute when Michael Cheek robbed Andy Smith of possession in the final third. His shot was palmed away by Morris, but Thompson converted the rebound.

A ball over the top sent Whitely on his way to add a third, beating Morris at his near post with a powerful shot from 20 yards.

Gills pulled one back when Dack tapped in from close range after Garath McCleary's shot had been palmed clear.
