Walsall 2-0 Port Vale

Walsall notched late in each half to edge past League Two strugglers Port Vale 2-0 and heap pressure on visiting boss Jon Brady.

Valiants fans called for Brady's sacking and booed off their players after Andrew Dallas's first goal for the Saddlers sealed victory in the 89th minute, adding to skipper James Connolly's deft flick in first-half stoppage time.

Much of the match was an almighty scrap and featured few chances, with Mason Hancock driving over the crossbar early on for Walsall while Ben Waine had a drive from distance parried away by Jed Ward and Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel fired off target at the other end.

The deadlock was broken five minutes into first-half added time when Courtney Clarke's low corner was flicked through the crowd and inside the near post by Connolly.

Walsall had more territory and play after the break and Hancock's inswinging free-kick from the flank was swatted over by Marko Marosi, who also beat away substitute Dallas's 12-yard effort in the 71st minute.

Dallas would have the last laugh, though, crisply catching an outswinging strike that swirled inside the far post from the right of the box.
