Chris Powell has left his position as Huddersfield manager.

Powell's contract has been terminated after 14 months, during which time he won 15 of his 58 matches in charge.

Town did draw at Reading on Tuesday night, but they have won just three times in this season's Championship and are currently 15th, five points above the relegation places.

However, Sky Sports understand the decision was made due to a difference in football philosophy between the club and Powell and not because of results.

Powell's assistant Alex Dyer also leaves the club, and academy boss Mark Lillis will be in charge for Saturday's Yorkshire derby with Leeds, live on Sky Sports.

Huddersfield chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: "We have decided to make this change after very careful deliberation. It is made with the long term interests of the Club in mind. It signals a change of direction by the Club and a new approach.

"Chris worked to represent Huddersfield Town to the best of his ability; to develop us, improve us and take us forward. He now leaves us well placed for the future challenges ahead.

"With his skills and qualities as a person, it won't be too long before Chris finds a new challenge and we wish him success when that comes.

"We would like to thank Chris and Alex and give them our best wishes for the future."
