Huddersfield are to sign on-loan forward Elias Kachunga on a permanent deal.

The Sky Bet Championship club have announced they have triggered a clause in their agreement with Bundesliga side Ingolstadt to sign the 24-year-old for £1.13million on July 1.

Kachunga, who has scored 11 goals for the Terriers since joining them on a season-long loan last summer, has signed a contract that runs until 2020.

Manager David Wagner told Huddersfield's official website: "I said in the summer that this move was perfect for the club and the player, as the loan gave everyone the chance to see how Elias would adapt to English football.

"I think it's now correct to say he has adapted well."

Ten of Kachunga's goals have come in league competition, helping Huddersfield to third in the Championship and into contention for promotion to the Premier League.

His form has earned the former Germany Under-21 international a call-up for DR Congo, for whom he is eligible through his father, this month.

Wagner said: "It's more remarkable that he came to us as a competitor at number nine, but has made the place on the right of midfield his own through his performances.

"I know he is a very popular man with the players and fans, so completing this move is a great day for the club. The most exciting thing is that I believe, at 24 years old, there is still more to come from Elias."
