Borussia Dortmund II coach Jan Siewert is under consideration to take over from David Wagner as head coach of Huddersfield Town, according to Sky sources.

Siewert is coach of Dortmund's U23 team, a position that Wagner also held before moving to the John Smith's Stadium.

Wagner left Huddersfield by mutual consent on Monday evening.

Huddersfield play Manchester City on Sunday and are not expected to make an announcement on their new boss until next week.

The Terriers are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after failing to register a victory in their previous 10 games.

Sam Allardyce, who has never experienced Premier League relegation as a manager, ruled himself out of the running for the Huddersfield role, saying he could not save them from the drop.

"The team plays well enough and creates chances but it does not score the goals from the chances it creates, which means losses instead of draws and draws instead of wins," said Allardyce, who had a stint with Huddersfield as a player.
