Brighton boss Chris Hughton believes Leeds' finishing was the only difference after losing 2-0 to their Sky Bet Championship rivals on Saturday evening.
The Seagulls missed out on the chance to leapfrog Newcastle at the top of the Championship as Chris Wood's 26th and 27th goals keeps Leeds' automatic promotion chances alive.
Brighton and Leeds both had three shots on target, with Wood converting two of them for Garry Monk's side.
And Hughton believes Leeds' clinical finishing in front of goal was all that separated the two sides in a tightly-contested match.
"We knew the game would open up in that second half," he told Sky Sports after the match.
"I thought we were better second half than in the first half but they had three shots on targets and so did we. It's just they picked their moments.
"We know what their strengths are. We've got a very good delivery from their wide areas and we certainly know what Chris Wood can do when he gets into the box.
"We had good chances through Anthony Knockaert and Glenn Murray, certainly as good chances as they had. It's just those fine margins that went their way."
Newcastle drew 0-0 with Birmingham earlier on Saturday, meaning Brighton would have gone top of the league with a win at Elland Road.
But Hughton insists he does not look at the results of any other Championship teams except those of his team.
He added: "I didn't know the results of today's games before we kicked off and I don't think it makes any difference.
"We're so used to playing on a Friday night, a Saturday early and late that you have to get used to it and focus on the performance.
"Every team now is fighting for something. I don't expect any easy games."
