Chris Hughton was disappointed with the manner of the goals Brighton conceded as they lost 2-1 at Manchester United on Saturday.
Goals from Paul Pogba (penalty) and Marcus Rashford ultimately saw Brighton off, with Pascal Gross halving the deficit in the second half to make for a nervy finish.
Brighton have won just one Premier League game in eight, sitting 13th in the table, and though manager Hughton did praise his side for showing character after going 2-0 down, he felt the goals were too costly.
He told Sky Sports: "It's disappointment. When you come here you know you've got to stay in the game, and we've paid the price for a slow start and poor goals conceded.
"We did show character after that, but it should never have got to that stage. I don't think we were at our best, and probably United weren't either.
"The biggest disappointment is the goals we conceded, we know the quality they have will test our goalkeeper. I thought we very much gave them a game.
"I thought there was a chance for us today, and if we started the game better, allowed ourselves not to be behind, particularly with the goals we had conceded, we could have got something."
Hughton added Brighton are not looking to make any signings in the January transfer window, but hasn't ruled out that situation changing between now and January 31.
"At the moment I don't think we'll be bringing anybody in, you can never say no in case something happens between now and the window, but with regards to what I think we need at the moment, no I don't think that will be the case.
"Possibly one or two going out on loan, but I don't think we'll be bringing anything in."
