Brighton manager Chris Hughton is feeling optimistic despite earning just two points from their last seven matches

Chris Hughton admits he is "concerned" about Brighton’s poor form but insists nobody at the club is “panicking” about a potential relegation battle.

The Seagulls have not won a Premier League game since December 29 and have dropped to 16th in the table, just two points above the drop zone.

Brighton face bottom club Huddersfield at the Amex on Saturday, before potentially crucial matches against Crystal Palace and Southampton in March.

"I have to be concerned because the league table speaks for itself and the form speaks for itself," Hughton said.

"A lot of the games have been close games, even at Leicester I thought the performance was good. On another occasion I think we would have got something from the game. With all of them factors, it makes us optimistic.

"We are very conscious that at our level, as a club we are always going to go through some difficulties in a season.

"It's a difficult period for us but it is a time where you need to hold your nerve. What is vitally important is that we realise where we are. Nobody here is panicking. What will get us through is to do what we do best."

Highlights of Leicester's win over Brighton in the Premier League

Davy Propper scored his first of the season in Brighton's 2-1 defeat at Leicester on Tuesday and Hughton hopes the midfielder can add more to help his side get back to form.

"I am not speaking out of turn when I say that we need more goals from the likes of Davy (Propper), Pascal (Gross), our wide players and a bigger contribution throughout the squad," he said.

"Particularly Davy, who has that ability to break into the box. It would be very welcome if he could add more goals."

Gross, who has scored twice in this campaign, will miss the visit of Huddersfield after limping off at the King Power stadium with a hamstring injury.
