Leyton Orient have signed former Aston Villa striker Jordan Bowery.

Bowery has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months in the club's favour.

The 24-year-old arrives at Brisbane Road on a free transfer after leaving Oxford and he becomes the O's eighth new signing of the summer.

Chief Operating Officer Vito Miceli is very happy with Orient's transfer dealings so far, telling the club's official website: "This recruitment process started four months ago with the identification of potential targets in League One and League Two by the club's scouting system, led by the head of recruitment Roberto Gagliardi with the technical advisory of manager Andy Hessenthaler and his assistant Andy Edwards.

"It's been exciting to have spent the last two months in direct contact with the chairman Francesco Becchetti, who was excellent in steering the recruitment process and making sound and timely decisions aimed at building a team which will be successful in the seasons to come, in order to achieve those prestigious targets that the second oldest professional club in London deserves."

Bowery began his career with Chesterfield before earning a big move to then-Premier League side Aston Villa in 2012. During his time at Villa Park he made 19 league appearances and had a loan spell at Doncaster.
