Aaron Drinan's stunning opener set up Swindon's first home win over local rivals Cheltenham since 2012.
Swindon captain Ollie Clarke doubled the lead in the second half before Ryan Broom's late consolation goal.

Drinan, last season's top scorer, hit a fine curler from outside the box after Anthony Munda nicked the ball in midfield in the 17th minute to put the home side in front.
Ben Middlemas nearly notched in similarly spectacular fashion after latching onto a loose ball after great work in the box from Jaylan Pearman.
At the other end Joe Tomlinson smashed over the bar from Charlie McCann's cutback. Tomlinson then drove low from distance but Connor Ripley got a firm hand to it.
Swindon doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Clarke jabbed home from a flick-on after a throw-in.
Ripley pulled off a fine block to deny Kirsten Otchere from point-blank range and then got down to gather Jake Evans' header.
Broom's brilliant half-volley into the roof of the net gave the visitors hope with five minutes left but injury-hit Swindon held on.
