Kemar Roofe scored twice as Oxford sent local rivals Swindon crashing out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 2-0 victory in a fiery second-round clash at the Kassam Stadium.

Sky Bet League One Swindon had to play for an hour with 10 men after centre-half Jordan Turnbull was shown a straight red card in the 30th minute for appearing to kick out at Jake Wright at a Town corner.

Roofe fired League Two high-fliers Oxford in front on 41 minutes with a low shot from nine yards after a strong run by Ryan Taylor.

And the former West Brom player made it eight goals for the season by turning the ball home from close range after Taylor flicked on Jordan Graham's right-wing cross in the 53rd minute.

It was a night when everything that could go wrong did for Mark Cooper's men, in front of a 9,000 crowd.

Defender Bradley Barry was stretchered off early in the second half following a seemingly innocuous challenge. Medical staff were very concerned for Barry, who looked to be unconscious for some time.

Barry had only filled in at centre-back because of Turnbull's dismissal.

On-loan Liverpool keeper Lawrence Vigouroux prevented Oxford winning by a much bigger margin.

He saved superbly from Roofe and brilliantly turned a shot by Graham onto the post.

Callum O'Dowda also struck the bar for the dominant U's.
