Northampton winger Nicky Adams will join Carlisle on a free transfer at the end of his contract with the Cobblers.

Adams, who moved to Sixfields from Bury last summer, was keen to move nearer to the north west and his deal with Carlisle will begin on July 1.

The 29-year-old was part of the Northampton team who won promotion this season as League 2 champions.

New Cobblers boss Rob Page said: "We wish Nicky well. He had already requested the opportunity to move back nearer to his family before my arrival and after further discussion we felt it was the right thing.

"Nicky certainly played a role in the club's success last season and I'm sure he will go with the best wishes and thanks of all supporters."

Adams, who also helped Bury win promotion from Sky Bet League 2 during the 2014-15 campaign, made 39 starts and six substitute appearances for Northampton, scoring three goals.
