Macclesfield 1-1 Cheltenham

Macclesfield chalked up their first point of the League Two season but allowed Cheltenham to take home a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Danny Whitaker had put the Silkmen ahead with an excellent free-kick 19 minutes in. However, he saw a 75th-minute penalty saved and Cheltenham substitute Manny Duku snatched a draw with five minutes left.

Veteran midfielder Whitaker pulled all the strings for the Silkmen and, although his team-mates were wasteful, he made no mistake when presented with a chance of his own.

Fouled by Ryan Broom a yard outside the penalty area he picked himself up to send the free-kick in off the foot of Scott Flinders' post.

Macclesfield should have been home and hosed by half-time but Harry Smith and Scott Wilson failed to make the most of their openings. Whitaker had a chance to double his tally when Will Boyle fouled Nathan Blissett in the box, but Flinders saved his spot-kick.

The Robins were far better in the second half but lacked the quality to trouble the Silkmen until Duku pounced late on.
