Christian Doidge's 12th goal of the season and a late Joseph Mills free-kick kept Forest Green's play-off dreams on track after a 2-0 win over Macclesfield.

In a lacklustre first 45 minutes, Macclesfield's Elliott Durrell chanced his arm with two long-range strikes and striker Harry Smith planted a header over the bar.

In response, Forest Green's Junior Mondal watched one long-range strike fly wide of the post and then, after a spell of keep ball, his effort deviated in the air and cleared the bar.

Macclesfield started the second half with intent and Reece Cole and Michael Rose went close to breaking the stalemate.

Rovers responded in equal measure and Doidge watched an effort fly over the bar from the edge of the box.

However, he found his range on 56 minutes. Mills' measured free-kick saw Rovers' leading marksman swivel and volley home into the bottom corner.

Mills wrapped up victory two minutes from time when he drove home a free-kick from 25 yards out.
