Midfielder eyeing promotion after committing to Valiants

Louis Dodds is eyeing promotion after committing to Port Vale for another two seasons. As revealed by skysports.com, the midfielder has agreed a new deal at Vale Park as Micky Adams tries to guide the club to League One. Dodds wants the Valiants to push on after finishing the season strongly, taking 22 points from their final 12 games. He told The Sentinel: "I am delighted to sign. When I think about how well we finished this season, I believe we can do even better and get promoted next year. "We will be looking for the play-offs at the minimum. If we carry on the way we were playing last season then we can get automatic promotion."

Adams

Dodds has backed Adams, whom he also played under during his Leicester days, after the Valiants boss led the side to 10th in the table in his first season at the club. Dodds, who was part of the side which finished 18th in League Two the year previously, added: "There hasn't been a huge change in personnel, but the manager came in and installed belief into the team and changed the way we go about games. "When the gaffer came in he breathed new life into us. The club needed that from top to bottom. "From the first day he came in, the lads felt we could achieve something. Now teams are scared of playing us rather than the other way around. "All the lads had set their hearts on getting to the play-offs this past season, but maybe we will come back as a better team for the experience and not have to go through the play-offs next time."
Aggressive
While Dodds scored less goals last season - finding the net on eight occasions - he believes he helped the team in other ways. He added: "The manager is very aggressive, makes us run about and has an old-school approach. In this division it is a lot about fitness. "The year before he came I scored a couple more goals, but maybe I didn't contribute in other areas. "This year I have put in more defensive work as well as set up other players more."
