Nelson sails into Hartlepool

More from Football

MICHAEL NELSON has become new Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper's first signing at Victoria Park.

The 21-year old joined Bury in April 2001 from non-league side Bishop Auckland and made 71 league appearances for The Shakers.

Pools had been tracking the central defender for some time but the club's first offer for the player was rejected by Bury last Friday.

But Cooper's arrival at the club has helped to resurrect the deal and the new boss is delighted to have Nelson on board.

"I have heard nothing but good things about Michael and it is great to get someone in so soon after losing a player in that position," he said.

"The confidence I was given in IOR to support me in the football club is immediately obvious in their backing for signing this player."

The tall defender was voted Bury's Player of the Year last season and Pools' fans will hope he can reproduce that form in the coming seasons.
