Nelson stays with Pools

Hartlepool defender Michael Nelson has signed a new deal at the club.

The highly-rated defender was linked with a move away from Victoria Park after attracting the interest of a host of clubs.

The 23-year-old has now moved to end any speculation over his future by penning a new deal.

Pools boss Martin Scott was delighted to keep Nelson at the club.

"I think it is a big boost on top of the new signings," Scott told the club's official website. "It is important that the club is seen to be looking after the players who have done well for us.

"The lads who have been here for a bit of time are showing commitment to what we are trying to achieve and Michael Nelson has been a massive part of what the team has done in recent years.

"It was vital that we got Michael to sign a long-term contract."
