Walsall have turned down an approach from Rotherham United for their manager Dean Smith.
The League One club announced on Wednesday that they had rejected an advance for Smith from an unnamed Championship club, which Sky sources understand to be the Millers.
Smith has been in charge at the Bescot Stadium since 2011 and has overseen one of the most stable periods in the club's history, winning 32 per cent of his 251 matches at the helm.
And the West Midlands club have therefore stressed they have no interest in allowing the 44-year-old to leave.
"In response to recent media speculation, the club can confirm it received an approach from a Championship club for permission to speak to manager Dean Smith," a statement read.
"As one of the longest serving managers in the country, Dean has been instrumental in the club's progress since his appointment and is fundamental to our future plans.
"This approach was categorically rejected and the club will be making no further comment."
Rotherham are on the hunt for a new boss after parting company with long-term manager Steve Evans last week.
Despite Evans guiding the South Yorkshire club to promotion to the second tier in 2014, and surviving in their first season there since 2005, Rotherham are in the relegation places with just eight points from their opening 10 games this term.
The Millers also had an approach for Burton Albion boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink rejected last Saturday.
