Exeter 0-0 Walsall

Exeter and Walsall played out a 0-0 draw in an entertaining Sky Bet League Two encounter at St James Park.

Former Walsall striker Josh Gordon saw his shot blocked and as the ball fell kindly for Sonny Cox, his effort was saved well by Jed Ward, before Cox hooked a shot on the turn over the bar from 15 yards.

Walsall's first effort came in the 33rd minute when Mason Hancock fired high over the bar, while Cox fired straight at Ward for Exeter after a perfect pass from Reece Cole.

The unbeaten Saddlers started the second half well with Ryan Leak's shot deflecting narrowly over the bar, while Ed James and Jack Fitzwater both saw efforts blocked for Exeter.

Courtney Clarke volleyed narrowly over the Exeter crossbar from 10 yards, while Cole smashed a half volley into the sidenetting for Exeter and debut substitute Ajay Matthews, a deadline day loan signing from Millwall, fired a great chance over the bar with 10 minutes remaining.
