Roberts injury dismay

Swindon's Christian Roberts is set to face a two month lay-off because of a hernia.

Swindon's Christian Roberts is set to face a two month lay-off after discovering he will need surgery to correct a hernia.

The 25-year-old has four goals this season for The Robins and this latest development represents his worst injury in a career taking in spells at Cardiff, Exeter and Bristol City.

Roberts originally suspected that the affliction was merely a groin strain, although he has since found out differently to his dismay.

"The polite way of putting it is that I'm gutted. I've never been out of action for eight weeks in my life," the Welshman told the Evening Observer.

"It's hard to know what to do. At least it's being done as quickly as possible. That's the only consolation."

Swindon manager Andy King suspects that Roberts will not recover speedily from the operation, and was understandably disappointed at the prospect of losing his £50,000 man.

"A hernia problem has been diagnosed, I think the scalpel will be required and I don't think Christian is one who will come through the injury in record time," said The Robins boss.
