Christian Roberts has been admitted to the Sporting Chance clinic in Hampshire.

The 26-year-old Swindon Town striker has admitted on Friday that he is suffering from a dependence on alcohol.

Roberts has been told he has the club's full support and he will now spend a residential period at the clinic, as he bids to overcome the problem.

"The club will support our players when they need help and I admire Christian for facing up to his problems and seeking help," Swindon boss Iffy Onuora told the club's official website.

"I am sure he will benefit from his time with Sporting Chance and we look forward to welcoming him back to The County Ground."

The mercurial former Exeter City striker has seen his career hit the skids since joining Town from Bristol City in October 2004.

A combination of injuries and illness have seen him limited to just 28 starts in 15 months with The Robins, his last appearance coming at the beginning of December 2005.

Sporting Chance was set up by former England captain Tony Adams in September 2000 and its programmes are specifically designed to meet the needs of stricken sportsmen.
