Ricardo Vaz Te is looking forward to kick-starting his career elsewhere after being released by Bolton.
The 23-year-old showed early promise early in his Wanderers career, but injuries have hampered his progress in recent campaigns.
Vaz Te failed to register a single appearance for the club this season and has now been released by manager Owen Coyle.
The Portuguese striker fully accepts the club's decision and admits the past few seasons have proved a frustrating time.
Vaz Te is now looking forward to a fresh challenge and believes a new start elsewhere is just what he needs to recapture his form.
Frustrating
"It's fair," he told the
Bolton News. "It's a good decision from the manager not to offer me a new deal.
"I'm glad in a way. The last three years have been very frustrating. I've never felt fit and then would break down.
"It would have been hard to say no to Bolton because I've had such a great time but I didn't want to stay.
"People will look at it that I was let go but it was a mutual decision. I was never going to get my contract renewed and it was time to go. But it has been for some time.
"I need a fresh start. I need to go somewhere where I'm appreciated and given a chance.
"There's been nothing positive in the last three years, just negative."
Name for himself
Meanwhile, Coyle has urged youngster Danny Ward to make a name for himself for Swindon in the League One play-off final.
Ward has impressed on loan for the Robins and has played a part in their progress to the Wembley final against Millwall.
The teenager netted in each of the semi-finals and was named man of the match as Swindon won on penalties against Charlton.
"I have contacted Danny and told him to go and light up Wembley in the final," said Coyle. "I am looking forward to seeing him in pre-season."
