Shrewsbury goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler may need surgery after sustaining concussion, a broken nose and cuts to his face during Monday's FA Cup tie at Grimsby.

Leutwiler was stretchered off during the goalless draw at Blundell Park following a collision with Grimsby defender Conor Townsend in the 38th minute and later had stitches to cuts on his nose and lip.

"Jayson is alright, he was a little bit woozy after the game and as you could see from the cameras there was quite a severe head clash," Shrewsbury physio Chris Skitt told the club's official website.

"He's got three quite decent-sized cuts across his face and he's made a good job of breaking his nose.

"The biggest issue at the moment is concussion and he was a little bit away with the fairies (on Sunday) night and when we got back.

"We will reassess Jayson (on Tuesday) in terms of how his concussion is coming along and he will probably have to see a consultant in regards to his nose and whether he needs an operation or not."

Skitt added: "It's one of those brave goalkeeping decisions that ends with face against knee and that doesn't normally end up well for the face."
