Shrewsbury Town have appointed John Askey as their new manager on a three-year deal, the Sky Bet League One club have confirmed.
The 53-year-old replaces Paul Hurst, who left the Shrews to become Ipswich manager on May 30.
Askey joins Shrewsbury after a five-year spell in charge of Macclesfield, who recently gained promotion back to the Football League after finishing ten points clear at the top of the National League.
"I'm excited about the challenge ahead," Askey told Shrewsbury's club website.
"It's all happened so quickly, but it's a great move for me. Last season you had a great season and it's whether we can reproduce that again. Obviously, we will be trying our best and I am looking forward to it.
"It's a big wrench to come and it had to be something special for me to come. I'm really looking forward to the challenge and testing myself.
"Everything's set-up to do well. Obviously, you've got a great chairman and everything I hear about the club is good, whether it's from players or whether it's been from managers, so that's the reason why I've come."
Macclesfield released a statement on Friday thanking Askey for his service to the club.
"We wish to place on record our thanks to John for not only the incredible job that he did in leading the Football Club back to the EFL, but for his dedicated service to Macclesfield Town over the last three decades as a player, a coach and a manager," read the statement.
"Whilst the Football Club is saddened to see him leave for a new opportunity we understand that this is a chance for him to move up the footballing pyramid."
