Beagrie leaves Mariners

Grimsby Town have released winger Peter Beagrie from his contract with the club.

Grimsby Town have released veteran winger Peter Beagrie from his contract with the League Two club.

The 40-year-old leaves Blundell Park after joining The Mariners in the summer from League One side Scunthorpe United.

The former Everton, Manchester City and Bradford City player now looks set to hang up his boots after more than 20 years as a professional footballer.

Beagrie has been struggling with a back injury and last appeared for Grimsby last month when they lost 4-1 at home to Hartlepool United.

With only nine Mariners appearances under his belt, Beagrie is widely expected to concentrate on a career in the media.

"In the short time Peter has been with The Mariners, he has been nothing less than a model professional on and off the pitch," read a Grimsby statement on the club's official website.

"Everybody at the club wishes Peter well for the future."
