Barnet winger Luke Gambin has turned down the chance to join Sky Bet League Two rivals Leyton Orient after the clubs agreed a fee in excess of £100,000.

The 23-year-old Malta international, who has scored 11 goals in 115 appearances for the Bees, was made available for transfer after rejecting talks over a new contract at The Hive.

Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous told the club's official website that Gambin wants to play at a higher level.

"Luke is an excellent player and we can fully understand his desire to test himself in a higher division," Kleanthous said.

"Of course we would have preferred that he stayed with Barnet this season, but unfortunately it has become quite clear that he wishes to move elsewhere. With the transfer window closing shortly we have had to quickly list him."
