Hereford United have confirmed the appointment of Richard O'Kelly as the club's new manager until the end of the season. The League Two strugglers relieved Jamie Pitman of his duties earlier on Monday and have moved quickly to appoint O'Kelly, who has previously had a spell as assistant manager at Edgar Street. O'Kelly has also worked as Sean O'Driscoll's No.2 at Bournemouth and Doncaster Rovers, and is looking forward to the challenge of keeping Hereford in the Football League. "I'm excited to be given this chance and it's great to be back at Hereford," O'Kelly told the club's official website.

Determined

"It's a very special football club for me and I'm determined to make sure the club starts to achieve its potential. "It's my first job as manager but what better team to start with. We've got 12 games to show and prove to people just what we can do." Pitman will remain part of the Bulls' coaching staff and chairman David Keyte is happy to have secured O'Kelly ahead of Tuesday's game against Macclesfield Town. Keyte said: "Richard was the man we decided could do a job for Hereford United. "He's got nothing to prove to this club and we think he can now prove himself as a first-team manager to the rest of football. "We're thrilled to have him and we hope he'll be guiding us to the future." Hereford's 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon was a first win in eight games and left the club in 21st position, two points outside the relegation zone.
