Accrington Stanley have terminated Patrick Lacey's contract after the player was handed a 14-month drugs ban by the Football Association.
Lacey, 24, breached the FA's anti-doping regulations after a metabolite of cocaine was found in a sample taken in a test after a game against Hartlepool on November 22 last year.
The test revealed the presence of benzoylecgonine and the midfielder admitted to breaching anti-doping rules.
Lacey's suspension runs from December 15, 2016 until February 14, 2018, but he has the option to appeal by May 10, 2017.
An Accrington club statement read: "Upon the completion of those proceedings this week, the club took immediate action and terminated the contract of the player.
"Accrington Stanley has strong values on anyone taking any prohibited substances and will always act in the strongest possible way to protect the integrity of the football club."
