Sunderland returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 Sky Bet League One win over Accrington Stanley.

The Black Cats lost 3-0 to Peterborough in their last outing but moved back into the play-off places with victory at the Wham Stadium.

Stanley opened the scoring after seven minutes when Joe Pritchard found Jordan Clark who drove the ball past Jon McLaughlin.

Sunderland replied two minutes later with Denver Hume's left-wing cross finding Lynden Gooch who volleyed home.

It was 2-1 after 26 minutes when Aiden McGeady got the ball on the edge of the area and rifled it into the top corner for his third goal of the campaign.

Stanley were a threat though and a Colby Bishop deflected shot hit the crossbar in the 34th minute.

Sunderland made it three after 36 minutes when Chris Maguire broke and passed to unmarked McNulty who stroked the ball into the empty net.
