The former England man will play for The Pilgrims in Tuesday's pre-season friendly against former club Newcastle United at York Street.
The former Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio and Rangers man has agreed in principle to join manager Steve Evans's backroom staff for the coming season from this week.
Gascoigne admitted to being impressed by Boston chairman Jon Sotnick's plans for the club, claiming that he can become a great coach and manager in the future.
"I've spoken to Boston and I was impressed with the chairman's ideas about what he wants to do at the club," Gascoigne said.
"I will play for them against Newcastle and have more talks on Wednesday. If I'm happy as player-coach, then I'll do it.
"I can become a great coach and a great manager. I want English kids coming through to earn a living in football."
Evans, meanwhile, revealed the buzz that there is in Boston over the possible arrival of 'Gazza' at the club.
"I went out and about in Boston yesterday (Thursday) and everyone was talking about Paul playing for Boston United," Evans told the Lincolnshire Echo.
"The town is buzzing at the prospect of seeing Paul pull on an amber and black shirt and I think Tuesday is going to be a tremendous occasion.
"The fans will love to see someone of Paul's calibre here and I'm sure they won't be disappointed.
"Hopefully, it will not be a one-off performance, especially if he decides to join us as a coach."
