Two separate floodlight failures caused Aberdeen's match against Motherwell at Pittodrie to be abandoned

The Scottish Premiership match between Aberdeen and Motherwell had to be abandoned on Tuesday night due to floodlight failure at Pittodrie.

The Dons went into the game knowing a victory would move them to within one point of second placed Rangers.

Play was suspended for nearly 20 minutes after the lights initially went out in the sixth minute and after they failed for a second time almost immediately upon the resumption, referee Alan Muir had no choice but to call the game off.

The failure was the result of an issue with a mains transformer, with back-up generators Aberdeen had brought in also failing.

Aberdeen have asked supporters to hold onto their ticket stubs, with a rearranged date for the fixture yet to be determined.
