Man pleads not guilty to assistant referee assault during Livingston vs Rangers match

A 30-year-old man has pleaded not guilty after being accused of throwing an object at an assistant referee during last weekend's Livingston vs Rangers match.

Stuart McGaughy appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court on Friday morning after being charged with assault to injury.

After pleading not guilty, he was released on bail until November 28, and his trial will take place on December 13.

McGaughy's bail conditions also state that he cannot attend any football matches in Scotland, and cannot contact the victim.

The incident occurred during the second-half of Livingston's 1-0 win over Rangers at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Assistant referee Calum Spence was struck on the back of the head by an object thrown from the East Stand, which was housing the travelling Rangers fans.

The match had to be held up for several minutes while Spence was treated by the Livingston physio, although he was able to complete the match.
