Scottish Premiership round-up: Hamilton beat St Johnstone to ensure safety

Hamilton secured their Scottish Premiership status for a sixth season with a 2-0 home win over St Johnstone.

Accies, who started the final day of the league season one point ahead of second-bottom St Mirren, took the lead in the 11th minute when defender Ziggy Gordon squeezed in the opener from close range following a corner.

Attacker Steve Davies doubled the lead in the 59th minute and although St Mirren beat already-relegated Dundee 3-2 at Dens Park it was rendered irrelevant.

While Brian Rice's side begin their summer holidays, the Buddies will start preparing to play Dundee United in the first leg of their relegation play-off at Tannadice on Thursday before the second leg in Paisley on Sunday.

St Mirren had to better Hamilton's result against St Johnstone to escape a two-game shoot-out.

But while they responded to goals from Cammy Kerr and Scott Wright with Cody Cooke's treble to claim victory, Oran Kearney's side did not receive the favour they were hoping for from St Johnstone.

The game was Dundee's last before they drop down to the Championship and also defender Darren O'Dea's final match as a professional ahead of his retirement this summer.

Turnbull smashed home his 15th league goal of the season from the penalty spot before referee David Munro awarded two more penalties in the space of a minute.

Ryan Hardie spurned Livingston's chance from the spot before Ross Stewart denied Turnbull's hat-trick with a clever low save.

Livingston showed the fighting spirit that has typified their season when Scott Tiffoney scored two goals in the final 10 minutes.
