One party still interested in taking over Gretna

The entire staff of troubled Gretna have been made redundant following a meeting with the club's administrators. The club had been hoping a last-minute offer would be made to save the ailing club before Monday's meeting with the administrators. Gretna went into administration in March with debts of around £4m, but they were allowed to fulfil their remaining SPL fixtures. A number of players left the club in the wake of the move into administration as they looked to safeguard their futures. Four parties were thought to be interested in taking over the relegated club, but it appears a deal has failed to have been agreed. One party is thought to be still interested in buying the club, but at a meeting on Monday administrator David Elliot of Wilson Field Ltd confirmed money had run out. And after previously being warned of their plight by administrators, director of football Mick Wadsworth has revealed the remaining 40 staff at the club would be made redundant. "All the staff have been made redundant this morning," said Wadsworth. "We're told there is still one interested party, but because there are no funds at the moment to carry on then everybody has been made redundant. "So the assumption from that, for most of us, is that it's the end of the line regarding employment at Gretna." A statement from Elliot confirmed: "A prospective purchaser has contacted us this morning and confirmed that he is still in negotiations with the SFL with a view to obtaining entry into the First Division. "The staff and players have today been made redundant. "The joint administrators thank all concerned for their support and wish everyone well in the future."
