Police Scotland have confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ they have received a complaint regarding tweets to Leigh Griffiths and are in the early stages of looking into the matter.

The Celtic striker, who had earlier scored in the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over East Kilbride, posted his own statement on Sunday night in response to the original message, which is believed to have concerned his children.

He said: "I'm all for banter on Twitter, I get praise when it's due, and criticism when it's due, but why do people feel the need to wish bad things happen to my kids??

"I'm doing my job at the end of the day, and if people don't like that, fine but please don't wish things like my kids to die please, because it really does hurt.
